Nagaland Choir Olympics finale at RCEMPA tonight

Ten choirs from across Nagaland will compete for the best choir title at the grand finale of Nagaland Choir Olympics scheduled to be held tonight at RCEMPA in Jotsoma from 5 pm onwards.

The programme is initiated by Task Force for Music and Arts (TaFMA), Government of Nagaland and presented by Musicians’ Guild.

The choir teams are the winners of various districts held in the month of September.

The choir teams are – Mon Chamber Choir (Mon), Cantamus Choir (Dimapur), Orangkong Choir (Longleng), Bridge of the Gap Chamber Choir (Wokha), Ongmesang (Mokokchung), ZTSBC Youth Choir (Zunheboto), Cantamus Choir (Peren), Harmonic Voices (Kohima), Yimchunger Baptist Church Choir (Tuensang), The Canticles (Phek).

The finale will have two rounds of performances where each choir will perform one song in each round.

The best choir will receive a cash prize of INR 1 lakh along with a trophy and certificate. The first and second runners-up will get INR 50,000 and INR 25,000 respectively.

Judges for the choir Olympics are Pauline Warjri (chief judge), director of Aroha Choir in Shillong; Ajeen Longchari Sucha, a musician by profession and Mhonroni Lotha, assistant professor in Conducting, Margaret Shishak School of Music, Patkai Christain College (Autonomous).

On October 24, another audition to select 20 musicians will take place after the finale to select a choir group to represent Nagaland at the 11th World Choir Games to be held in Belgium from July 5 till the 15th next year.
