DIMAPUR, AUGUST 26

THE NSCN (K) warned that the Centre’s ‘wrong calculation’ and ‘negative feelings’ towards it would force the outfit to break the ceasefire signed in 2001. He, therefore, urged the Centre to restrain itself from its activities which would be detrimental to the peace process. Senior kilonser (minister) and supervisor of Ceasefire Supervisor Board (CFSB) of NSCN (K) Y. Wangtin Naga, who has recently returned from Myanmar, today admitted that the split of NSCN (K) in June 2011 has brought more destruction to the outfit. He also alleged that the split further led to more violation of ceasefire agreement by the Centre.
He maintained that the Centre had wrongly believed that the breakaway group led by Khole Konyak and N. Kitovi Zhimomi could resolve the long-pending Naga political problem. “Much importance was accorded to the breakaway group which had generated negative feelings towards the NSCN (K) by the Centre with the sole objective to weaken the outfit,” he stated.
Wangtin also alleged that to weaken the NSCN (K), the Centre had even allocated the outfit’s designated camps to the breakaway group of NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) which was totally illegal according to the ceasefire agreement.
“The plan of the Government of India was to weaken us but it will never succeed,” Wangtin said. He added that the tactics of the Centre will never succeed as the NSCN (K) does not only hold the main key for the Naga people but also for the whole of Northeast.
“We are for sovereignty of Nagaland and we represent the people and not Khole’s party who have become part and parcel of Government of India,” the NSCN (K) leader asserted.
Wangtin claimed that the NSCN (K) has established a strong base in Myanmar after the truce with that country and warned that the outfit would not hesitate to break the truce with New Delhi if the Government of India tries to push it to the wall. He also cautioned that it would be a costly affair if the Centre does not restrain itself from its nefarious activities towards the NSCN (K).
“The fatherly status of NSCN (K) in the circle of northeast people cannot be reduced by the Government of India through illegal means,” the NSCN (K) functionary said.
He explained that the outfit wanted to maintain brotherly relationship with the Centre and its security forces till resolution of Naga political problem but warned that his group would never allow illegal activities by the Centre as it is also party to the bilateral ceasefire.
He said the NSCN (K) has developed a bitter feeling towards the Centre in the last couple of years because of the latter’s ‘unlawful and clandestine illegal activities’. Therefore, the outfit would not hesitate to break the truce, he warned.
Wangtin also accused the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) of backtracking from its commitments. He cited the example when the MHA de-notified the Kuthuro-Wungpho designated camp near Tuensang after the NSCN (K) cadres at Athibung designated camp were withdrawn to be camped there.
The CFSB supervisor also requested the Centre for a designated camp at Tuensang to accommodate the cadres who were withdrawn from the Athibung camp. He said random arrest of cadres at Tuensang by the security forces was unfair as they have no camp to stay and had to stay in public places.
He said the Centre had also approved a sub-office of CFSB at Purana Bazaar, Dimapur but when the outfit had come to open the office on December 18, 2011, they were attacked by the rival NSCN (Khole-Kitovi) group with the full knowledge of MHA. He alleged that the attack was engineered by the MHA.
The NSCN (K) which signed ceasefire agreement with the Government of India maintains transparency, faithfulness and honesty towards the Centre, Wangtin said. “Therefore we want the same reciprocation from New Delhi,” he added.
He insisted that all the NSCN (K) cadres arrested by the security forces from Tuensang recently be released and a designated camp established at Kuthero-Wungpho to accommodate the cadres in the larger interest of both the Centre and the NSCN (K).
