Dimapur, Sep. 22 (EMN): Eight girls from Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, participated in the ‘Solidarity Students’ Exchange Programme’ (SSEP) with Sophia College for Women, Mumbai University, Maharashtra, from September 8 to 15.
During the programme, they interacted with the faculty and students of the partner college and attend classes in the chemistry, microbiology, zoology and life sciences laboratories. They also got a glimpse of research as a profession at the prestigious Tata Institute of Fundamental Research, insights into organic farming, vermicomposting, biogas plants, and medicinal plants at the Keshav Shrishti, and an overview of how to run an NGO with CEO of Bombay Community Public Trust, Delnaz Paliwalla.
Besides, they visited various heritage sites such as the Gateway of India, Nehru Science Centre and Planetarium, Taraporewala Aquarium, Global Vipassana Pagoda and Mani Bhavan and Museum. They experienced the local Maharashtrian culture through home visits and also performed traditional Naga songs and dance at the college. An update from the college stated on Sunday.
The primary objective of Solidarity Students Exchange Program (SSEP) was to empower young women from low-income backgrounds who demonstrate exceptional academic aptitude and knowledge of their respective culture(s). It was an initiative co-designed by two organisations namely the Indian National Fellowship Centre (INFC), co-founded by the former Governor of Nagaland, PB Acharya, and Dr. K&T Keditsu Foundation, a registered public charitable trust with one of its primary objectives to empower women through education.
It stated that this year, the 4th batch of students have successfully completed the week-long programme, which was fully sponsored. The exchange programme between female students of colleges in Nagaland with colleges in Maharashtra, Gujarat, Karnataka or Madhya Pradesh plans a comprehensive educational and cross-cultural series of activities, the release added.
