The Kohima Village Youth Organisation (KVYO) today celebrated glorious 25 years of existence with Minister of Forest, Ecology, Environment and Wildlife, Dr. Neikiesalie Nicky Kire as the chief guest at Ziekezou.
In his speech, Dr. Nicky while stressing on the identity of Naga people, opined that once out of Nagaland, every Naga should identify themselves as a Naga and not according to their tribe. This, he said, would help in upholding the Naga identity and also bring about oneness among the Naga people.
Dr. Nicky also suggested that Nagas should change their eating habits from what is tasty to which is healthier and also indulge in exercise so have a healthy life.
Maintaining that unity amongst the four khels or sectors of Kohima village is a must to build up better understanding and cooperation, he said youths are the future of the society and therefore challenged KVYO to live up to its motto “Unity and Strength”. He also called upon KVYO not to celebrate the occasion with merry making and feasting but adopt resolution for future course of action.
Expressing concern on the increased cases of Kohima villagers indulging in sale of land, he cautioned them to be careful lest one day the land owners may have to stay in rented house in their own land.
Further expressing that Naga girls have been doing better than boys in all spheres of life, he said it should be a wake-up call for the boys to perform better.
Kohima Village Council chairman, Neivor Rutsa and first president of KVYO Menuovilie Kesiezie also exhorted the gathering.
