Imphal, March 29 (EMN): The Khelen Thokchom Trust (KTT) and Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) on Friday jointly organised an interaction-cum-workshop on ‘Digital security for journalists covering elections’ at Manipur Press Club in Imphal.
CPJ’s India Correspondent Kunal Majumder spoke on various aspects of digital safety including basic device preparedness, identifying bots, online harassment and trolling and securing and storing materials.
He also spoke on physical safety while on field reporting during rallies and protests.
Majumder expressed his desire to create a network of journalists in the region to share their grievances and defend the right of journalists.
He also distributed copies of ‘Safety Kit for journalists covering the elections.’
CPJ’s emergencies response team has compiled the safety kit based on best international practices. It contains information for editors, reporters, and photojournalists on how to prepare for elections, and how to mitigate digital, physical and psychological risk.
Altogether, 35 senior editors and journalists from Manipur including the members of All Manipur Working Journalists’ Union, Manipur Hill Journalists Union and Editors’ Guild Manipur attended the workshop.
KTT was constituted in memory of prominent journalist Khelen Thokchom by his friends in association with the deceased family to promote excellence in journalism.
CPJ is an independent, non-profit organization that promotes press freedom worldwide. Every year, hundreds of journalists are attacked, imprisoned, or killed. For more than 30 years, CPJ has been there to defend them and fight for press freedom.
