Sameti huddles on group mobilization, farm school work

Dimapur, Feb. 21 (EMN): The State Agricultural Management and Extension Training Institute (Sameti) at Medziphema, in Dimapur organised a two-day training program about how to mobilize groups and operate farm schools, for “farmer friends” (sic) from six Agriculture Technology Management Agency (Atma) districts. The districts are said to be Dimapur, Kohima, Peren, Phek, Wokha and Zunheboto.
The event was conducted at Medziphema during February 20-21, a press release from the institution stated on Thursday. ‘The training programme was aimed at revisiting the roles of farmer friends with special reference to group mobilisation and farm school,’ the updates stated.

The training programme covered the topics ‘introduction to Atma, organisational structure at various levels; concept of farmer friends; objectives, duties; concept, objectives, functions, role of farmer friends and farm schools; mobilization of groups, group approaches etc., the updates stated.

It was informed that a field trip to a pineapple farm school at Molvum village in Medziphema was undertaken. The ‘farmers’ friends’ interacted with the farm school’s teacher, the updates stated. ‘They were appraised on the functioning and activities carried out in the farm school.’

In the valedictory address, Dr. I Amenla, director of the Sameti, congratulated the farmer friends on the successful completion of the training. She was said to have urged the participants to play a key role and work as agents in the village to disseminate information. “She also advised them to utilise the skills and knowledge gained during the training while associating with the farming community,” the organisers stated.

The training programme concluded with distribution of certificates and ‘handouts’ to the participants.
