Beauty and popularity of Manipur culture has not diminished – Manipur governor

Imphal, Feb. 6 (EMN): Manipur Governor Dr Najma Heptulla today conferred Akademi Lifetime Achievement Award, Akademi Awards and Akademi Young Talent Award 2015 to 28 individuals for their outstanding contribution in their respective fields of dance, music, theatre, shumang leela, guraleela, wari leeba, arangpham, tribal culture, literature, fine arts, mime and thang-ta.
The award presentation ceremony organised by Manipur State Kala Akademi was held at Maharaja Chandrakirti Auditorium, Palace Compound, Imphal.
Hijam Gourasing Singh was conferred the Akademi Lietime Achievement Award which carries a citation and a cheque of INR 3 lakhs. The Akademi Fellow was conferred to Khangembam Mangi Singh and Nameirakpam Ongbi Ibemni Devi which carries a citation and a cheque of INR 1 lakh each. The Akademi Award was conferred to 19 exponents (citation and INR 50000) and six were conferred the Akademi Young Talent Award carrying citation and a cheque of INR 25000.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr Heptulla said that the beauty and popularity of Manipuri culture has not diminished over the centuries due to the hard work and sincere efforts of many illustrious gurus, exponents and practitioners and felt privileged to honour some of the personalities.
