USA to take on Argentina in women’s polo final

Imphal, Jan. 20 (EMN): US women polo team will take on Argentina polo team in the finals of the 4th edition of the Manipur Statehood Day Women’s Polo Tournament here at the Mapal Kangjeibung, in Imphal on Mon. Jan. 21.

To promote women polo in the country, the All Manipur Polo Association (AMPA) is organising the Women’s Polo Tournament under the sponsorship of the Department of Tourism from Jan. 17-21.

Four foreign countries -USA, Kenya, Canada and Argentina besides two other domestic teams –Indian Polo Association (IPA-India) and IPA-Manipur are participating in the tournament.

Youth affairs and Sports Minister Letpao Haokip who also holds water resources portfolio will attend the closing function as the chief guest. AMPA president Dr K Saratchandra Singh led association members will also attend the closing function-cum-prize distribution session of the five-day tournament which was inaugurated by Consumers affairs, food and public distribution inister K Shyam on Jan. 17.

In the last league matches on Saturday, USA thrashed IPA-India by 10-4 goals while the host IPA-Manipur and defending champion Kenya had an exciting 7-7 draw. Earlier on Friday, Kenya was down to Argentina 3-7 while USA trounced the first time participant team Canada by a goal margin of 8-1.
