Dimapur, Nov. 3 (EMN): Eight organic farmers led by officials of School of Agricultural Sciences and Rural Development and a local agriculture group called Connect Organic Nagaland, participated in a recent horticulture event, the Biofach India 2018, at Pragati Maidan in New Delhi. The team said to have ‘zeal and enthusiasm to promote organic farming in the state’ for which they participated in the three-day event ‘to learn more about organic farming practices.’
A press release on Saturday informed that the event was conducted during Oct. 25-27.
Biofach India is a platform for the Indian organic industry to “converge and craft a bright future for the industry,” and is a gateway to ‘showcasing the Indian organic potential to the world,’ the updates stated.
The horticulture fair provided a platform to all organic stakeholders to showcase their organic products, services and research to create business opportunities, enabling a meeting point for the farmers to connect to their target audience.
“The fair showcased countries that are promoting organic farming are encouraged to participate under this banner to share their scientific research on organic agriculture with India and also individual countries who crafted organic farming policies for conversion of areas from chemical to organic,” the updates stated.
The team from Nagaland noted that many states in India were moving towards organic farming, a sector in the state that has huge potential due to its availability of natural resources and rich biodiversity base. The farmers interacted with different buyers and sellers from India and international countries “which further enabled them to know the potential export demands from our state,” the updates stated.
The group said to have visited the pavilions at the fair, mostly from different states of India and the Northeast region, and interacted with them about the scope, prospect and marketing policies of the sector and its products. The team also interacted with various industry leaders and farmers from different states, among others, it was informed.
The team also called on Nagaland advisor for Horticulture Mhathung Yanthan and the principle secretary for Horticulture MK Mero at Nagaland House in Delhi. They discussed the need for an ‘organic mission’ in the state and to implement policies for marketing and exporting the state’s products to help farmers and the local economy.
The fair was said to have been organised by Nürnberg Messe, stated to be one of the 15 largest exhibition companies in the world and Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), a statutory body of the ministry of Commerce, which provides a platform to showcase India’s quality produce to the global market.
The team was sponsored to participate in the event by Revenue minister Neiba Kronu, it was informed.
