PARLIAMENTARY Secretary for School Education Yitachu today mooted that the School Education department would maintain ‘Complaint Box’ in Kohima so that anybody can drop complaint letters against identified government teachers using ‘proxy’ and also working in multiple departments.
Addressing the inaugural function of the Sub-Division Education Office (SDEO) building at Pughoboto under Zunheboto district, Yitachu said the mindset of the people, including that of employees of the School Education department and government teachers that children’s do not have future in government schools, has to change.
Pointing out that the department conducts all forms interviews and only the best ones are selected as government teachers, he said government teachers should give their best to educate children.
Seeking pre-hand apology from private institutions, he said “only those who are unable to get through in the interview for government teachers get into private institutions”.
“The best of the best teachers are selected to teach in government schools,” he said. Comparing this, the government teachers should be able to perform better than the private school teachers, he said. The Parliamentary Secretary, however, lamented that once appointed the qualified government teachers fail to sincerely perform their duties.
He said if the government teachers are insincere towards their assigned duties, they are committing crime of ill-treating others children.
Dwelling on the issue of proxy teachers, the Parliamentary Secretary said it is also the responsibility of Village Education Council to check such practices. He also suggested that students, public and VECs should come forward in complaining about such errant teachers.
He directly charged the VEC saying that some VECs are in the habit of allowing proxy teachers by collecting some portion of the salaries from the actual teacher. This, he said, should be discontinued.
He also lamented that manpower wise SED is the biggest department but with unsatisfactory performance of the employees.
In this connection, Yitachu said the School Education department would set up an Open Complaint Box so that anyone (without identifying themselves) can drop their complaints against identified proxy teachers or those working in two-three departments. Through these steps, he was hopeful that transformation can be brought about in the School Education department.
Further pointing out that the State government has been directly depositing salaries of employees through the banks accounts, he said it was intended towards good but if the government employees (teachers) try to abstain from job thinking that their salaries would be paid through the banks, the trend will be reverted.
Meanwhile, expressing the hope that with the inaugurating of the new building SDEO would function better for the welfare of the students’ community in the Sub-division, the Parliamentary Secretary also called upon the Naga people to protect any public property as the church buildings are protected.
Also reiterating that Right to Education (RTE) was a dangerous trap for the Naga people as no student can be detained till Class 8, Yitachu called upon the teachers not to neglect their duties.
On the political front, Yitachu lauded the efforts put in by local MLA Vikheho Swu. He said for too long Pughoboto had been in the Opposition but now with the change of leadership of the area, things will change for better.
Asserting that NPF is not only a political party but the symbol and image of the Naga people, Yitachu said the leadership of DAN-III government under Chief Minister TR Zeliang would adopt corrective system for the welfare of Naga people and all-round development of the State.
