Dimapur, March 14 (EMN): Governor PB Acharya has expressed grieve at the demise of a veteran leader, Chenlom Phom on March 12 after a prolong illness.
In a condolence message to his wife, Chubasenla Chenlom Chenth, governor said Chenlom contribution as a public leader in various positions for the welfare of the people of Nagaland will be ever remembered.
As a person he was friendly, cheerful and fatherly and protective towards the younger generation. Many will feel a sense of personal loss on hearing this sad news and this feeling will continue with them for a long time, he added.
Acharya also said Chenlom was first elected as member of Legislative Assembly in 1977 and was a member of NLA for five consecutive terms till 2008. He had served the people of Nagaland in different capacities as MLA, deputy speaker, speaker, minister and advisor.
Governor conveyed his heartfelt condolences to family members and prayed to the Almighty to grant strength and solace to bear this irreparable loss.
SC Jamir: Governor Odisha SC Jamir and his wife have expressed shock at the demise of Chenlom Phom, former speaker of Nagaland Legislative Assembly.
In a condolence message, Jamir said ‘I know him very intimately as we were working together in the service of the people in the most trying time.’
He was a very committed and determined leader, who used to speak out his mind without any reservation. The people of Phom were very dear and near to his heart. He had contributed a lot towards the uplift of the tribe he represented, Jamir said.
In his demise, the governor expressed regent that the Naga people have lost a veteran politician and his will be a great loss to the Phom people in particular.
While conveying condolences to the bereaved family, Jamir and his wife prayed for the decease soul to rest in peace.
Wangyuh Konyak: Ex-Member of Parliament Wangyuh Konyak has expressed shock to learn the passing away of M Chenlom Phom, former speaker of NLA at Referral Hospital in Dimapur.
Wangyuh said the demise of a prominent leader and an elderly politician has created a vacuum particularly in the Eastern Naga areas.
“It was late Chenlom Phom as chairman and myself who formed the then Tuensang Mon Legislatures” Union (TMLU),” he said.
His deeds in many capacities will be remembered by younger generation in the days to come, Wangyuh added.
Along with his family, Wangyuh conveyed deepest condolence to the bereaved family and prayed to the Almighty to give them strength and comfort and eternal peace for the departed soul.
EX-PAN: The Ex-Parliamentarian Association of Nagaland (EX-PAN) is shocked at the demise of Chenlom Phom, ex-MLA on March 13.
A condolence message from the association president, T Khongo said Chenlom was successfully elected member of Nagaland Legislative Assembly for five consecutive terms and served as minister for Education, Jail, Relief & Rehabilitation, Fisheries, Printing & Stationery, Geology & Mining, and Art & Culture; deputy speaker; speaker; Minister for; and advisor to backward areas.
The EX-PAN described Chenlom as a man of vision and dynamic public leader who dedicated his life for the dignity and integrity amongst the Naga brothers and sisters.
The association said his death has caused a great loss to the Nagas in general and Phom community in particular and the void created by him will be difficult to fill.
Further, the EX-PAN offered prayer to the departed soul to rest in eternal peace.
