Kohima, Jan. 15 (EMN): After an impressive opening ceremony of the 63rd Kohima village sports meet at the Kohima local ground on Sat. evening, the sports meet entered day-one as the sports events of various discipline started on Monday at the Kohima local ground. The sports meet is hosted by Kohima Village Youth Organisation.In the medal tally, Tsütuonuomia-Khel leads on day-1 with 17 medals (9 gold, 4 silver and 4 bronze), Dapfhütsumia-Khel in second position with a total tally of 10 medals (2 gold, 2 silver, 5 bronze). Pfuchatsumia-Khel is placed in the third position with 6 medals (3 silver and 3 bronze) and Lhisemia-Khel in fourth with 4 medals (3 silver and 1 bronze).The sports events on the first day included the 100, 200, 800, 400, 1500, 4×200 metres race (men), and 400 metres relay race and shot put, javelin throw, discus throw, high jump and broad jump.While Seloukuolie Kire representing the Dapfhütsumia-Khel broke his own record from the last year in the shot put event producing his best at 12.10 metres to win a gold medal.The competition on day-2 will commence at 9.30 am at the Kohima local ground, with athletics events with 11 gold medals up for grabs. While the indoor game for the meet will begin on Tuesday evening at the Indoor Stadium Kohima wherein the first round of chess will be played.
