KVK Phek observes World Soil Day

Dimapur, Dec. 10 (EMN): The Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) of Phek observed World Soil Day on Dec. 5 at the ZAPO court in Zuketsa.


A presentation on the importance of soil health was elaborated by Dr. T. Esther Longkumer, ACTO (Soil Science) KVK-Phek; SDAO of Pfutsero Dr. Imtionen spoke about organic crop production through the enrichment of soil with organic input.
The branch manager of NStCB, Mathung Khuvung encouraged the farmers for financial inclusion in agriculture and allied activities. He congratulated Lasumi village for receiving Golden Village award for their successful implementation of bankable projects.


Wepre, a farmer representative appreciated the activities of KVK-Phek and other departments for their support in the agricultural developments in the villages and also urged to take up more capacity building programmes in the villages.
Guest of honour, ADC Pfutsero Zeneikhonuo Vimero, appreciated the village councils for their endeavour towards conservation of flora and fauna of the region. She encouraged the villagers to practise organic farming and other scientific soil conservation measures.


Director I/C ICAR NRC on Mithun Dr. N Haque, shared about the rich diversity of crops in the Northeast region. He urged the farmers to practice improved soil management methodologies for enhancing crop productivity.


An exhibition of farmer’s friendly technologies was also displayed during the World Soil Day event. Soil health cards were also distributed to four villages and leaflets were to the visitors. The Experts also visited the farmer’s field and demonstration units.
Altogether 320 farmers and concern government officials participated in the event.
