Thursday cycle ride; Minister Karam Shyam rides to airport

Imphal, Dec. 7 (EMN): As announced earlier, Manipur Consumer Affairs, Food and Public Distribution Minister Karam Shyam continues to ride bicycle to attend office every Thursdays.
On Dec. 7, Thursday, he rode his bicycle straight to Imphal International Airport from his official quarter in Imphal, covering a distance of around 8 km on Thursday on the ground that he will not be attending the office as he had a flight for Guwahati to attend meeting of all Consumers Affairs and Public Distribution ministers of NE states to discuss issues on petroleum and natural gas.
Many onlookers in Imphal were surprised when they saw the minister accompanied by three of his staffs, riding his black mountain bike along the busy roads of Imphal on Thursday taking around 30 minutes to reach the airport.
On reaching the airport, Minister Shyam told reporters who followed the historic bicycle ride that the main idea of his initiative is to spread the awareness among the masses particularly to the youngsters to conserve fuel and lead a healthy life.
Minister Shyam had announced to attend office by riding bicycle to conserve fuel during a fuel conservation programme in Imphal on Nov. 26, 2017. Since then he began cycle ride on every Thursday from his official residence at Sanjenthong till his office at Old Secretariat both in Imphal, covering about 1 km.
