Sexual health and tobacco awareness workshop at SJC

Dimapur, Sep. 23 (EMN): The Women’s Forum of St. Joseph’s College, in collaboration with the Sociology Department organised a workshop on tobacco awareness and sexual health on Sep. 22 at the college Indoor Stadium, with Dr. Thejavinuo Keditsu (obstetrics and gynecology) and Dr. Keduovinuo Keditsu (oncology), both from K&T Keditsu Foundation, Kohima as resource persons.
Speaking on sexual health and hygiene, Dr. Thejavinuo stressed on the importance of sex education for present day youth. She encouraged the parents and their young adults to have open healthy communication on sexual health. She also shared some of the commonly prevalent Sexually Transmitted Diseases (STDs) and precautionary measures to avoid them.In the second session, Dr. Keduovinuo spoke of tobacco awareness. She said among all tobacco products, chewing tobacco is the most common form of tobacco usage. She also mentioned that most of the cancer patients she came across were victims of excessive tobacco usage. She advised the students to desist and detest from indulging in tobacco usage in any form, as tobacco is a substance with neither any nutritive value nor any other beneficial properties in it.
In an interactive session queries raised by the students were answered by the resource persons. More than 1000 students attended the workshop.
Earlier, Dr. Keditsu briefly highlighted the history and mission of K&T Keditsu Foundation. Principal of the college, Fr. Dr. S. Ousepparampili welcomed the gathrinf while Assistant Professor (Sociology dept.) Dievileno Chasie proposed vote of thanks.
Inter-departmental quiz competition: Keeping in mind the increasing level of competition in all sectors, and the need to encourage and prepare the potential young students to face such challenge, the Alumni Association St. Joseph’s College, Jakhama, conducted an inter-departmental quiz competition at St. Joseph’s College on Sep. 21.
Altogether nine teams representing different departments took part in the competition.
The Department of Political Science was adjudged as the Quiz Champion 2017, while the Department of Sociology and the Department of History were placed in 2nd and 3rd position respectively.
