I am shocked to learn this morning that some unidentified persons went to the residence of Shilumar, Press Secretary of Rio group to “discuss about the statement issued by him…”
One may or may not agree with what someone writes in the newspapers, but that does not mean one should make visits personally with whatever intentions. I, for one, do not agree with most of the things my young friend Shilumar writes, such as serving a 15-day ultimatum to Dr Shurhozelie to step down as Party President and reminding him to hand over moveable and immovable properties before August 13. Such unconstitutional demands are ridiculous bordering to the absurd because the Constitution of the NPF clearly mentions about the procedure for election of party President and Central Office Bearers etc. The legislators of the party are not authorized or competent to elect or appoint any functionary of the political party NPF least of all, the President. Usage of unsavory language such as “failure to comply to the directives, we shall be compelled to initiate our own course of actions and the consequences and negative fallout, if any, Dr Shurhozelie Liezietsu will be held accountable” (sic) is most regrettable and uncalled for. However, I shall be the first to protest, argue and point out that he, Shilumar, has every right to write whatever he believes in. His right to express himself in any media is an inalienable democratic right which cannot be deprived by any person, group of persons or any authority.
Differences of opinions should be settled through discussions using appropriate platforms and never through physical confrontations. One must not think of imposing one’s school of thoughts forcibly through coercion or intimidation. After all, we are no longer living in the days of headhunting where might was right and political inclinations, it must be kept in mind, would differ from person to person depending on beliefs, ideologies and personal relations.
The ongoing political crisis in the State is most unfortunate and the political grouping within the Naga People’s Front family is disheartening. However, rule of law must prevail and since the matter is being taken to the Courts of law, we all must be patient and wait for the outcome of the verdict. Let no one take the law into their own hands.
