Four receives Governor’s award

Kohima, August 15 (EMN): The 15th Governor’s Award 2017 was conferred on four recipients for distinction in the field of art and music today on the occasion of 71st Independence Day.
The recipients, namely Karo Trakha (Music), T Manli Konyak (Art), Guru Sangyusang Pongener (Music) and Guru Shiromong Anar (Music), were conferred the award during the “Governor’s At Home” programme held at Durbar Hall, Raj Bhavan, Kohima.
The award was instituted in 2003 by the state government in recognition and honour of eminent practitioners, teachers or promoters of art, music or literature in the state. A total of 71 recipients have received the award till this day, including this year’s four awardees, it was informed.
Governor Acharya, in his address, congratulated the recipients of the prestigious award and urged them to continue to excel in their field so as to motivate the youth and the upcoming talents.
“Our state has been a true gem in the Indian union with its distinct culture, customs and traditions and its unique identity. On this occasion, we honour those who have distinguished themselves in the field of art, music and literature,” the governor said and lauded the recipients for excelling in their field through dedication and sincerity.
He further stated the need to let art and art forms, dialects and language take advantage of technology to reach out to more people.
“In modern world, we have to think as to what can be done to preserve our rich cultural heritage and traditions. Technology has evolved to stage where there are many tools easily available to create the software, graphics, websites, music and videos that will let each society transmit aspects of their culture to the youth, and indeed share their identity with everybody in a globalised world,” he said adding “we must ensure the survival of our handicrafts, traditional art, dance forms and music. We have to promote and preserve our mother tongue also which is our identity,” he added.
Chief Minister TR Zeliang, while congratulating the recipients, expressed confidence that they will continue to excel in their chosen fields, to inspire and set good examples for the younger generations to emulate.
“The number of the distinguished award winners now stands at 71. This amply testifiers to the fact that there is no dearth of talents in the field of creative pursuits in our state for which we ought to be duly proud of,” Zeliang said.
