Kohima, July 9 (EMN): A day after DAN chairman and former chief minister, TR Zeliang wrote to governor PB Acharya staking claim to form a new government, Zeliang is said to have officially met the latter in Guwahati on Sunday to apprise him of the new political developments in the state.
A legislator from Zeliang’s camp who did not wish to be named said that the governor was likely to give incumbent chief minister Dr Shürhozelie Liezietsu a few days to resign. In the event the chief minister fails to do so, a floor test could be expected.
On the suspension of Zeliang and 9 others by the NPF’s disciplinary action committee, he said it was chief minister’s “last desperate shot” to hang onto his chair.
When asked about the news that three MLAs have fled today from Zeliang’s group currently holed up at Kaziranga, the source allayed them as rumours. “Instead, we have garnered support from more NPF MLAs and our number now stands at 37 out of 47 NPF MLAs,” he said.
He informed that two MLAs were not in Kaziranga as they have ailing family members who required their presence and care, but their not being with the others physically ‘should not be misconstrued by the rival camp’.
He also denied reports that some of the BJP MLAs were at Kaziranga, saying the BJP MLAs will remain neutral until a majority in NPF was clear.
The BJP Nagaland also issued a press release on Sunday rubbishing reports ‘in a section of the press’ claiming that three of the party’s legislators were also camped at Kaziranga in support of TR Zeliang.
“The BJP would like to clarify that this is not true and is just speculations. Since this is NPF party’s internal affairs, the BJP have nothing to do with it. All BJP and MLAs are intact and remain neutral as DAN coalition partner”, it stated.
