Deciding to follow ‘music’ as her profession was never an easy choice for young Yenili Zhimo who had to convince herself that she could sing. But with a solid dream, the young musician from Dimapur has started off her musical journey with no plans of turning back.
Her debut single “Try” talks about the absence of mutual love between two souls.
Yenili Zhimo who is current pursuing music from Hillpraise Music Academy prefers being alone and spends her leisure time writing songs.

EASTERN MIRROR: A line about yourself as a musician for those who haven’t heard of you yet…
Yenili Zhimo: I’m just a woman singing my way out and I hope it does something good to the listener.

EASTERN MIRROR: When was the first time you performed on-stage?
Yenili Zhimo: I’m sorry, I don’t exactly remember my first performance onstage. It was a slow paced process, I started singing in church functions etc.

EASTERN MIRROR: What has been your biggest challenge as a musician? Have you been able to overcome that challenge?
Yenili Zhimo: My biggest challenge as a musician was to convince my
self that I can sing, I can perform better. Absolutely yes, I have overcome those challenges and I’m quite confident in my abilities now.

EASTERN MIRROR: What genre of music do
you consider your work to be?

Yenili Zhimo: I don’t have any definite genre but I do like pop, R & B, rock etc. So my work would be mostly about POP and R& B.

Yenili Zhimo: My family, my friends, Hillpraise Music Academy and well wishers.

EASTERN MIRROR: Could you briefly describe your music-making process?
Yenili Zhimo: It’s a tiring process I used to hum a lot, and when melodies stuck I would start writing down the lyrics, sometimes lyrics first and gradually adding tones into it. Imagination feeds me a lot in my music making process.

Yenili Zhimo: I practice a lot, and it’s quiet difficult to adjust with other obligations but somehow I manage it by limiting my time consumption outside, I would rather be alone.

EASTERN MIRROR: Favourite quote
Yenili Zhimo: “Be good, if not be great”.
