Mokokchung post office introduces ATM service

Mokokchung, April 20 (EMN): The Mokokchung Mukhya Dak Char (Mokokchung Post Office) has added an amenity, a Post Office Bank ATM Service, to facilitate value-added services for the public here on Thursday.

The Post Office Bank ATM booth was inaugurated by I Pangernungsang Chief Postmaster General, North East Postal Circle in the presents of Lemlila T. Sangtam SDO (C) Mokokchung, RM Patel, Director of Postal Service Nagaland, Kohima, Mokokchung Postal Service officials, Tzukti Longkumer, President MCCI and chairmen from nearby wards. He was also the first person to transact cash withdrawal from the newly install ATM.

Addressing the program, the chief postmaster informed that this ATM Service is the second to be installed in Nagaland out of 24 ATM approved for the Northeast India.

He also informed that Post office Bank ATM comes with a package of total free transaction fee and urged the postal staffs to sanitize the public to avail these free services and also directed the officials to distribute the debit card of the bank account holders within a time line.

Saying that minimum amount for opening a bank account in post office bank is just fifty rupees, Chief postmaster also urged that officials to make aware of the facilities and services to the people and also put effort to boost the banking service of the post office bank.

Pangernungsang also stated department has more than one lakhs fifty thousand postal offices across India along with under Digital India initiative the postal Department has taken banking services and the department target is to become the largest banking network in the world .

He also stated that out of 338 postal offices in Northeast Circle they are almost 200 Arrow offices which include Mokokchung post office but lamented that because of remoteness and poor connectivity out of 338 postal offices they are still 196 offices to be migrated to Core Banking Solution (CBS).

Chief Postmaster also stated that the Ministry of External Affairs has entrusted the Postal department to facilitate passport service and more than 100 Post office Passport Seva Kendra has been setup across India but lamented that Northeast does not have even a single such facilities.

He, therefore said if the criteria for opening a Post office Passport Seva Kendra is visible here than it would not provide passport services to Mokokchung people alone but to the neighboring districts- Longleng, Teunsang, Tuensang etc.

Earlier, Tzukti Longkumer, President MCCI also spoke at the programme. He also submitted a representation to the Chief PMG, NE Postal Circle highlighting about revamp of infrastructure and connectivity of the Mokokchung post office. In this regard, the Chief Postmaster NE Postal Circle informed that a proposal has been send for the construction of a new building for Mokokchung Post Office.
