DIMAPUR — The 72nd Phom Day (Peace Day) and fourth Triennial Peace Summit will be observed on June 6 at public ground in Longleng.

Dr. Wati Aier, convenor of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation (FNR) and recipient of the Baptist World Alliance’s Human Rights Award, will attend the summit as the special guest, a DIPR report stated.

Phom Day marks the end of headhunting era in the Phom area and beginning of peace and harmony amongst the Phoms.

It mentioned that on June 6, 1952, elders from various villages, led by head dobashi late Hamnyei and late Yongtau, gathered at Longleng and decided to put an end to the headhunting practice. The Phom community also pledged to live in peace and harmony.
