DIMAPUR — The 72nd Phom Day (Peace Day) and 4th Triennial Peace Summit were commemorated on Thursday at the public ground in Longleng with Dr. Wati Aier, convenor of the Forum for Naga Reconciliation, as the special guest.
Addressing the gathering, Aier highlighted the significance of the day, emphasising the legacy of peace and unity built by the Phom community over the past 72 years. He spoke of the dreams of their forefathers for a future where their culture would thrive, a dream that has now been realised.
He further lauded the Phom community’s resilience and vitality, noting their ability to shape the future and drive historical change despite challenges.
Underscoring the significance of history, he stressed the imperative of recognising and respecting individual identities within the geopolitical landscape. Aier also emphasised the importance of self-esteem in achieving liberation and called for continued reverence for women.
EAC Longleng, Imkongnukla, in her speech, encouraged those gathered to forgive their enemies and work together for prosperity, striving to live lives that glorify God.
It may be mentioned that Phom Day marks the end of the headhunting era in the Phom area.
