71 candidates from 7 town councils file nominations

Kohima, Jan. 4: Amid growing pressure from the tribe hohos to restrict intending candidates from filing their nomination to the elections for the urban local bodies, several candidates Wednesday went ahead and filed their nomination papers.
As per information from the State Election Commission, at least 58 intending candidates, including three women, have filed their nomination papers today in six different town councils.
It may be mentioned that the filing of nomination to the ULB elections commenced on January 3. On day-one, 13 candidates under Phek Town Council filed their nomination papers, while the rest of the district registered nil.
Out of the 58 candidates, 9 candidates, including three women, have filed their nomination papers today under Tuli Town Council, while 13 candidates were from Wokha Town Council.
From Bhandari Town Council, there were 9 candidates and 10 candidates from East Dimapur Town Council. There were also 8 candidates who have filed their nomination papers under Chozuba Town Council and 9 under Meluri Town council.Altogether, the number of candidates who have filed their nomination papers stands at 71. The rest of the 25 town councils across the state did not register any.
Meanwhile, the NPF party has announced their final list of official candidates to the 19 wards under Kohima Municipal Council.
The candidates are Kethosituo Mepfhüo (Ward 1), Thinuokhrielie Yaotsu (Ward 2), Kelhuophinuo (Ward 3), Khriekehekuo Dzüvichü (Ward 4), Vimhalie Pienyü (Ward 5), Thinuochaü Zumu (Ward 6), Vitshu Vizo (Ward 7), Khozo Angami (Ward 8), Anungla Makritsu (Ward 9), Khriemetuo Yiese (Ward 10), Thejangulie Theünuo (Ward 11), Alebu sanchu (Ward 12), Asabu Zhasa (Ward 13), S. Medom (Ward 14), Khriesinuo Rikha (Ward 15), Neibo-o Kire (Ward 16), Kezhazer Angami (Ward 17), Valentina Vizo (Ward 18), Thepfuhulie Belho (Ward 19).
Till yesterday, the candidate for Ward No 3 was withheld, though the rest of the candidates were announced by the party.
In Wokha, it was reported that the Lotha Hoho has called for an emergency general meeting on January 8 next at 1.30 pm.
