DIMAPUR — The 70th All India Inter-Railway Table Tennis Championship (Men and Women), organised by the Northeast Frontier Railway Sports Association (NFRSA), concluded on August 16 in Guwahati.
The closing ceremony was attended by the general manager of Northeast Frontier Railway, Chetan Kumar Shrivastava, who, along with the president of NFRSA and other senior officials, felicitated the winners and presented the trophies and prizes, according to a press release.
The championship, which commenced on August 12, witnessed participation from 13 men’s teams and 6 women’s teams, comprising a total of 180 players, referees, and coaches representing various zones from Indian Railways across the country.
The event featured competitions in multiple categories, including men’s and women’s team championships as well as men’s and women’s singles championships.
South Eastern Railway emerged victorious in both the men’s and women’s team championships. In the women’s singles category, Anusha Kutumbale of Western Railway clinched the title, defeating Takeme Sarkar of Northeast Frontier Railway. In the men’s category, Ronit Bhanja of Eastern Railway triumphed over Jeet Chandra of South Eastern Railway to become the champion.
It said that the tournament featured the participation of many prominent players, including Sutirtha Mukherjee of South Eastern Railway, who represented India at the 2020 Tokyo Olympics and won the World Table Tennis Women’s Doubles.
