Seven new faces joined the state BJP ahead of the ensuing Imphal Municipal Corporation (IMC) polls scheduled to be held on June 2.
I’ve given my consent to enrol them in BJP,” party president Thounaojam Chaoba Singh announced during a press meet at the party office here. He said distribution of party tickets to aspiring candidates for the upcoming municipal polls would be done shortly by the party’s concerned committee.
The state BJP has already announced to put up party candidates for all the 27 seats of IMC.
The Indian National Congress (INC) will start distribution of forms for the coming local body polls tomorrow. Last date of submission of form is May 8, according to a statement released by Secretary (Administration), Manipur Pradesh Congress Committee (MPCC). The grand old party is likely to face a tough fight with BJP in the ensuing polls.
Manipur People’s Party (MPP) also announced that application for aspiring candidates who want to contest the municipal polls on party tickets will begin on May 3.
As per a party statement, last date of submission of form is May 15.
Stakes are high for the saffron party and INC in the municipal polls considered as a curtain raiser to the coming state assembly polls in Manipur next year.
Reserved seats for the women and Scheduled Tribes candidates for the local body polls were officially announced on April 27. Ward Nos 1, 21 and 24 have been reserved for the ST candidates. Ward No-24 has been reserved for ST women.
While, Ward Numbers 8, 12, 16, 18, 22, 19, 23 and 25 have been reserved for women candidates excluding ST women.
