65-year-old man from Nagaland sentenced to 20 years jail for raping minor girl
Dimapur, Nov. 28 (EMN): A 65-year-old man was sentenced to 20 years of rigorous imprisonment by a POCSO court, Tuensang in Nagaland, last week for raping a 6-year-old girl more than three years ago.
Special Judge POCSO, Longshithung Ezung convicted M Tangsoi under section 6 Protection of Children against Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act and imposed a fine of INR 10000 for committing offence under section 5 POCSO Act and 376AB IPC.
In default of payment the convict shall undergo further sentence of six months, according to an update from the Special Judge (POCSO) Tuensang. The judgment was passed on November 22 and the sentence pronounced on the following day.
The case was investigated by ASI Chilliam and prosecution led by Kenile Kent, Special Public Prosecutor, POCSO Tuensang.
It may be recalled that the accused was arrested and an FIR lodged with the Tuensang Women Police Station on July 7 2019, the same day the offence came to light. The accused was released on bail on December 17 the same year before he was convicted last week.
