5th North East shooting c’ship held

Dimapur, July 21 (EMN): The 5th North East Zone Shooting Championship 2017 organised by the Shooting Association of Meghalaya and co sponsored by the North East Council and the Directorate of Sport and Youth Affairs and conducted by the National Rifle Association of India was held at the Assam Regiment Centre (ARC) Shooting Ranges, Happy Valley, Shillong, Meghalaya from July 15 to 20, 2017 informed a press note.

A total of 211 shooters participated in the championships out of which 148 were men and 67 were women. The youngest participant was a 10 year boy and a 10 year girl.
Manipur topped the medal tally with 18 Gold, 13 Silver and 10 Bronze, Assam 16 Gold, 11 Silver and 6 Bronze, Meghalaya 6 Gold, 7 Silver and 9 Bronze, Mizoram 5 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze, Nagaland 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze, Services(Army) 2 Gold, 1 Silver and 1 Bronze.
Merang Jamir of Nagaland bagged 2 Gold in 50meter small bore free rifle prone National Rule (NR) and International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) Veteran Men Individual. Rimkung Warmila Chote bagged 1Silver and Sharda Bardwaj 1 Bronze in 10meter Air Pistol Women Individual.
25meter Standard Pistol shooters Metekhrielie Mejura and Imkongmeren were also invited for further training by Bhaba Kalita ISSF Judge.
A total of 53 shooters qualified for the 61st National Shooting Championship Competitions at New Delhi.
15 new records were set in 11 matches.
The next 6th North East Zone Shooting Championship 2018 would be hosted by the Mizoram Rifle Association at Aizawl, Mizoram.
