49th Karbi Youth Festival national rock contest underway
The echoes of drums and guitars encompassed the whole of Diphu town bringing the spirit of the 49th Karbi Youth Festival (KYF), National rock contest-2023. The preliminary round of the rock contest was held at the Arboretum craft centre, Matipung on Friday (February 17).
The rock contest is organised by the Racket Tailed Musical Society (RTMS) in collaboration with the Karbi Cultural Society (KCS). Altogether 14 bands participated in the preliminary round where only nine bands were selected for the final round to be held on Sunday (February 19) at Semson Sing Ingti stage at Karbi People’s hall Taralangso, Diphu. During the competition, the bands were given two songs, one original and one cover. The contest was judged by Jimmy Tisso and Pal Engti.
The selected bands are Dissected Soul (Darjeeling); Fredy’s (Mizoram); Tokyo Lights (Haflong); Since 90’s and Next to Blue Moon from Nagaland; while Onslaught Anabolic, The Redeemer; Mentor; Trivial are local bands and Hope for Humanity a local band wildcard entry to the finale.
Rahul Tisso, joint Treasurer of RTMS, said a promising band of Northeast India, Magdalene has arrived and will perform live on February 19 at Taralangso.
