Thenyizumi, March 22 (EMN): Deputy Chief Minister, Y Patton will kick off the 36th meet of Phek District Sports Association (PDSA) cum 1st Naga style category wrestling at Thenyizumi village under Phek district on Tuesday.
The event is being hosted by the Chokri Area Games and Sports Association (CAGSA).
The week-long Phek district sports meet will culminate on March 27.
Minister for Planning and Coordination, Land Revenue and Parliamentary Affairs, Neiba Kronu will be the guest of honour.
Besides, the deputy chief minister will also inaugurate the new local ground of Thenyizumi village under Chozuba sub-division in Phek district.
In the first ever Naga-style category wrestling (men) about 39 wrestlers are all set to participate in various categories- under 65 kg; below 74 kg and 86 kg, which will be held on March 23, alongside other athletic events.
Besides football, basketball and volleyball both for men and women, the meet will also witness track events both for men and women which includes 100 metre dash, 200 metre sprint, 400 metre race, 800 metre race, 1500 metre race, 4×100 metre relay race, 3000 metre race (women) and 5000 metre race (men).
The meet would also witness field events- discuss throw, javelin throw, shot put, long jump, high jump, triple jump and arm wrestling.
Hukhonieyi Soho will be the athletic event chief referee; Vesurayi Venuh will do the same for football, Tsibu Khesoh for volleyball, Surhoneyi Soho for basketball and Vekhriyi Chuzho for wrestling.
