IN a swift action, Kohima Police with the cooperation and support of the denizens of Jakhama village today nabbed the three accused persons involved in the alleged kidnapping and murder of a taxi driver and also escaping with the vehicle on Wednesday night.Police sources said three accused identified as Mengunol Tase (a constable in Kohima DEF), Kehosul Tetso and Huzoto Tetso ‘ss lt’ in NSCN-IM were nabbed with the cooperation of the Jakhama villagers from different locations by 3 pm.
All the accused hail from Jakhama village, including the one arrested yesterday, Tepusato Sophie, who is also a constable in DEF Kohima.
It is learnt that the four after threatening the driver of the taxi (NL0T-8254) Joynul Hussain had forced him to go till Khuzama on hire, but they beat him and strangulated him to death in between Jakhama and Viswema.
Throwing the victim below the road, the four had escaped with the vehicle.
The body was recovered yesterday morning while subsequent enquiry led to the arrest of Tepuseto Sophie and recovery of the vehicle from Jakhama village yesterday itself.
The absconders were nabbed today and are under police custody while further investigation is in progress, police said.
