2nd edition of Jalukie Phumling inter-khel tournament kicks off
DIMAPUR — The second edition of the Jalukie Phumling Inter-Khel Tournament, organised by The Catalyst Jalukie, kicked off on October 12 at Ball Park, Jalukie town, Peren district.
Hainkeing Heikha, chairman of Old Jalukie village, was the special guest for the inaugural ceremony, an update stated.
In his address, the special guest appreciated The Catalyst for organising the tournament, highlighting its role in promoting unity among the people of Jalukie.
He urged the community to embrace the dignity of labour, pointing out that the rise of outsiders in various fields within the Jalukie valley is a result of reluctance of local people to engage in certain types of work.
Guest speaker Masangum Hiekha, PRO to Deputy Chief Minister TR Zeliang, also noted the rapid growth in population within Jalukie valley, with thousands migrating to the area each year.
Speaking on communal harmony, Hiekha warned the gathering of the divisive effects of “communal disease,” emphasising that while medical diseases can be treated with prescriptions, communal strife can tear communities apart.
He encouraged the gathering to harness their God-given talents and to pursue their dreams with determination and self-reliance.
Iteising Kire, BDO (RD) Peren, commended The Catalyst for their efforts in bringing together the diverse khels of Jalukieme through the tournament. Kire encouraged the participants to display exemplary sportsmanship, reminding them that the tournament is more than just competition, but also “a platform for interaction and unity among the people of Jalukie.”
