DIMAPUR: In a shocking incident, a 25-year-old student succumbed to her injuries after she was allegedly shot at by a male friend on May 8 around midnight at Zeliangrong colony, Dhobinallah, in Dimapur.
According to Dimapur Police, the victim was identified as Supou P, a final year student of Unity College, Dimapur, while the accused was identified as Thingiu Khiam (36), a deputy kilonser of NSCN (Khango) group.
The accused reportedly brought the victim to Faith Hospital after the incident, where she succumbed to her injuries, police said.
In this connection, the accused along with his bodyguard, one Mongchon Khiam (37), were arrested along with arms and other items.
The seized items included one modified AK rifle with two magazines and 55 live rounds of 7.65mm, one country made .32 pistol with one empty case, two sets of walkie talkies and one soft top Gypsy (white).
A case has been registered under relevant sections of law and further investigation is on, police said.
Meanwhile, the Khiamniungan Students’ Union, HQ Noklak, condemned the killing of Supou P on Tuesday.
‘Such barbaric action is not acceptable in this civilised world and such a crime should be condemned by Naga society; a befitting punishment should be provided as per relevant section of the law and he (accused) should not be bailed under any circumstances,’ the union stated in a condemnation note.
