Hornbill Festival contributing to state exchequer
Minister of Tourism and Higher Education, Temjen Imna Along, said that the Hornbill Festival is contributing revenue to the state exchequer.
Replying to a starred question raised by MLA Achumbemo Kikon on the Hornbill Festival and if the festival adds to the liabilities, the minister said that an amount of INR 5.5 crore was allocated to the Tourism department by the state government in 2023 to organise the Hornbill Festival, and an amount of INR 17,11,980 was added to the state exchequer, which is about 3.1% of the total allocated money.
“However, it may be taken into consideration that direct government revenue generation from the festival may not be treated as a priority. This can be considered a beneficial trait as the actual investment of the government generates more than twenty-fold times in return for the economic partners of the festival, which are infused into the local economy,” he explained.
