The 1st North East Star Cement Snooker championship, organized by Mizoram Snooker and Billiards Association (MSBA), is being held from May 13 to 16. The championship carries a cash amount of Rs one lakh. Mathew and Seyikhrielie from Nagaland are into the pre-quarter. Mathew entered the pre-quarter after defeating Zoramthanga and Larinthuanga (both from Mizoram) in the last two rounds. Seyiekhrielie also entered pre-quarter after defeating Firoj Ali from Meghalaya and k. Larintlunga from Mizoram. Mathew Pienyu will play Tauqtuqe Ali from Meghalaya while Seyiekhrielie will meet K. Lakwmkima in the next round.
Altogether, 42 players from four states – Assam, Mizoram, Meghalya and Nagaland are taking part in the four day tournament. Mathew Pienyu, Seyikhrielie Zao and John Clavin are from Nagaland.
