1st Mokokchung district chess championship, coaching camp underway

Dimapur, Sep. 7 (EMN): Nagaland Chess Association organised the first 1st Mokokchung district chess championship and coaching in Mokokchung.

The championship is being held in collaboration with DEF Mokokchung at DEF School. Around 50 students participated on day one and day, while the camp will be held till September 8, an update stated.

Aotula T Imchen, SP Mokokchung, inaugurated the chess coaching camp cum championship. She said India hosted the 44th Olympiad of chess in Chennai Mahabalipuram last month for the first time, and it is an important step taken to give importance to this game.

Mughaho Awomi, chess instructor, Youth Resources and Sports; secretary, Nagaland Chess Association and joint secretary All India Chess Federation, spoke on the benefits of chess , adding that most renowned chess players are good in studies.

“A healthy mind and a fit body contribute greatly in shaping the golden future of a child. Playing the game of chess on a regular basis right from childhood improves the learning, thinking, analytical power and decision-making ability of the child. Chess makes the child learn how to strategise aspects of the game and life. In addition, a child can also learn the importance of foresight and planning.

“Chess improves the logical part of the brain and every time you learn a new move, a new neuron is developed in your brain, which increases the size and capability of your brain’s neural network. The game of chess helps to integrate mind, soul and body together. Chess helps to prevent anxiety and depression by encouraging self-improvement improving self-esteem and self-confidence,” read the statement.
