Dimapur, Oct. 6 (EMN): The 1st Chizami Football League (CFL) organised by Chizami Sports Association (CSA) kicked off on Oct. 5.
The league was declared open by Kewepelo Tsuhah, Chairman of Chizami Village Council, an update stated.
Six teams from six khels, with a total of 350 footballers are taking part in the league, where 80% of footballers are below 18 years of age, it said.
“The Chizami Football League is organised to provide platforms to young aspiring footballers and develop professional football at the grassroots level. The league will be played for around five months, which will give young players more playing time and confidence,” it read.
Khwetelhi Thopi, CSA football secretary and 1st Hero I League player from Nagaland, said Chizami Football League is one of its kind in Nagaland where a village league is organised and played for around four months. The objective and principles of CSA is to promote more professional footballers in the days to come, he stated.
Calling upon other associations from village, district to state levels, “we need to start organising football leagues in order to promote and develop footballers in our state,” he added.
