Mokokchung: Commandant of 173 Bn CRPF, Ashok Kumar Yadav on Monday admitted that Civic Action Programmes (CAP) are conducted to bridge the gap between the security force and the local populace.

The gap could be distress and annoyance caused to the local public which in turn creates distrust between the two parties, he said.

“Sometimes in the line of duty, we have to conduct such operations which create distress among the local populace, for this CAP is initiated to show that we care for the local public wherever we perform our duties,” he asserted.

He said, “we respect the local public; they have to be respected and that is the ethos of the paramilitary security forces.”

He also mentioned that the budget allocated by the Central government for CAP is a meager amount; therefore, surveys of the areas are conducted first and various essential items are provided which are beneficial for them in their daily lives specially for needy people and institutions through CAP.

“The cost of the item does not matter, it is the affection and bondages that matter,” he said.

On the occasion, the C/173 Bn CRPF at its company headquarters located at DEF Camp, Chuchuyimpang, Mokokchung organised a CAP and distributed a total of 33 water storage tanks.  They were distributed to the Govt. Middle School Khensa, needy people of Khensa village and Chuchuyimpang village residing near deployment of C/173 battalion.

Cuthbert Tongsin Anal, Assistant Commandant, in his welcome speech said that the CRPF is the premier force of India and is the largest paramilitary force in the world.

He added that with over 3 lakh men and women serving personnel, CRPF is deployed in every Union territory and state in India; additionally, they are deployed in foreign nations in the UN Peacekeeping force.

He further lauded the Commandant of 173 Bn CRPF for coming up with the idea to distribute water storage tanks in Mokokchung where it faces acute scarcity of water during the dry season.

Prominent persons from Khensa and Chuchuyimpang village also spoke at the event and thanked the Commandant, 173 Bn CRPF for organising a people-friendly programme.
