12th National Voters’ Day celebrated in Mokokchung

Mokokchung, Jan. 25 (EMN): National Voters’ Day was celebrated at ADC Planning Hall, Mokokchung to commemorate the foundation day of the Election Commission of India on Tuesday.
Addressing the occasion, DC Mokokchung and district election officer, Limawabang Jamir asserted that the day is observed to spread awareness among the voters for promoting informed participation in electoral processes.
It also focuses on the commitment to conduct elections safely during the pandemic, he added.
Congratulating all the recipients of Best BLOs Award, he urged them to continue to work hard and diligently in all the duties assigned to them.
Further, appreciating the first time registered voters from Mokokchung district, he said they have been bestowed the right to exercise adult franchise by the Constitution and ECI, while expressing hope that they would not misuse their right but contribute to build a more vibrant democracy in the days to come.
Jamir also urged the essay competition winners to uphold the principle of democracy not only in words but in action as well.
Earlier, 10 BLOs from ten constituencies received the best BLO Awards, while in the online essay competition, Sentilemla Aier was declared the winner. She was followed by Kilangzulu and Takanaro Walling as the second and third winners respectively. All the three winners are from Queen Mary Higher Secondary School.
The programme also witnessed felicitation of newly-elected voters followed by voter’s pledge and short video on National Voters’ Day.
