Dimapur, May 11 (EMN): Mhainamtsi Village Council has vehemently condemned the ‘barbaric act’ of destroying rubber plantation of 13 years, pine apple, bamboo and tapioca farms allegedly perpetrated by Keyevi B/Khehoi village.
A press release issued by Mhainamtsi village council chairman, Miucham, said soon after intervention and verification of the spot by Dobashis and Jalukie police on April 29, the Keyevi B/Khehoi villagers continue their barbaric act by cutting down all rubber plantations.
Terming the act as direct insult/ challenge to the government by taking the laws into their own hand, the council believed that the government will dispense justice without any bias or malice towards none and also to give compensation for the damaged crops and plants.
It mentioned demarcation of its boundaries allotted by landowner that is Lamhai village as located at Tehai River to the border of Chumukedima in the north, KW Road in the east, PWD Camp (Tehai River North and Nkwareu River in the west, and Nkwareu River in the south.
The council release said besides the first eviction Letter No. JUDL/38/76 Dt. 1/5/76, the second and third eviction orders were issued in 1983 and 1985 respectively. Despite serving eviction order by the government, it said the said village defied the order and re-established the village.
The village press release mentioned that on May 4, 2000, Keyevi B/ Khehoi villagers, with the help of some uniformed personnel ambushed the kheti goers with sophisticated weapons killing six persons on the spot. On May 6, 2000, two village workers, a Nepali family (husband and wife) were killed in a farm house.
With patience running out over continuation of threat by ‘unrecognised village’ and also dissatisfied on the silence of the State government, the council said they are prepared in spirit for final showdown in defending their traditional boundary. It further stated that the village will not be held responsible if the government fails to deal with the matter accordingly.
