Zhimomi underscores entrepreneurship for self-sustenance

Dimapur, Dec. 17(EMN): Minister of PHED, Jacob Zhimomi, has advised students to not only seek government jobs after completing their studies but also to work hard and become entrepreneurs and farmers to support themselves.

The minister was speaking at the two-day annual conference of Thilixü Students’ Union (TSU) on Saturday at Thilixü Village Baptist Church, Dimapur.

Jacob said, “Completing studies till bachelor or masters degree does not guarantee that the student will get a government job, but that a viable alternative is when a student can become an entrepreneur or a farmer for self-sustenance.”

He shared that students often complained about their frustration because they cannot get jobs.

“They do not want to do hard work or small jobs after completing their studies, and so they should not blame anyone but blame themselves,” Zhimomi said.

The minister reminded the students that since their parents have provided them for their education, they should also be responsible and not depend on parents after completion of their studies.

“As Nagas, children think that they will get a government job after they graduate, but it does not work that way,” Jacob said adding, “But one must know that not all parents are old-fashioned and if their children have no income and are dependent on the parents, then parents have the rights to control their children.”

He also shared that there are some parents who pamper their children and do not allow them to do household chores, and so children tend to take advantage. But real education should begin with teaching the children to work at home, he said.
