Wokha, April 11 (EMN)
: Around fifty youths trekked to Mt. Tiyi on a mission to clean the tourist site in Wokha district on April 10.

Mt. Tiyi, the highest peak in Wokha district, is being polluted with plastic wastes and non-biodegradable materials, largely found at the peak, dumped by people visiting the scenic site.

Wokha village as well as many individuals and organisations have been involved in tackling the indiscriminate plucking of wildflowers,  illegal logging, and are actively involved in disseminating information to  people who visit Mt. Tiyi to not throw waste.

The Forest department along with Wokha village on September 3 and 4, 2020 started a mission to replenish the rapidly vanishing Rhododendron population on Mount Tiyi along with the neighbouring villages.

In an attempt to create awareness, the youths said that “your waste is your responsibility” and told the people who go trekking not to pluck the endangered Rhododendron flowers at Mt. Tiyi and urged to “preserve and protect the natural beauty”.

Various individuals and student unions from Wokha Village, Niro Range, and Wokha Witter Theological College students joined the cleanliness campaign drive at Mt. Tiyi.
