Youth Voters Festival: Students urged to refrain from selling votes

Dimapur, Sep. 8 (EMN): Tuensang and Longleng observed the Youth Voters Festival 2017, by organising seminar, competitions and other activities.
According the press release, in Tuensang, a seminar for college students was conducted on September 8, at CKS Hall, with EAC, Tuensang, Vikhoto Richa as resource person.
Richa gave a brief introduction of the Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) campaign, process of electoral system, ethical voting, and NOTA.
DC and DEO, Tuensang, L. Jamithung Lotha in his short speech encouraged the students to be enrolled and participate in the electoral process and added that everyone should participate in the election, to choose capable leaders who can represent us.
“When money speaks, the truth is silent,” he quoted, and encouraged the gathering to refrain from selling their votes, calling for putting an end to the corrupted political system in the society. Youths are the pillars of the society with the power to change the current political system, he said.
District Icon SVEEP, Moasenla chaired the programme. EAC, Tuensang, Tsiatsusie delivered the welcome address while, Lirili Sangtam presented a special song.
Meanwhile, a five-day Youth Voters’ Festival at Longleng which began from September 4 culminated on September 8 by organising various activities by the Election department for the youths and students’ community of the sistrict
The purpose of the campaign was to disseminate maximum awareness on quality conduct of elections and to educate the youths about their rights for free and fair elections, the press release stated.
On the first day a seminar on “Increase qualitative participation in terms of ethical and informed voting” was conducted for college students at Yingli College, where ADC & ERO Longleng Temsuwati Longkumer was the resource person.
On the second day, students visited district VREC as a part of SVEEP campaign.
Essay competition and art and painting competition for college students and GHSS level was conducted at Yingli College Bautung Memorial GHSS on third and fourth day respectively.
The press release informed that winners of the competition will be awarded with a cash price of Rs. 6000, Rs. 4000, and Rs. 3000 respectively for 1st, 2nd, and 3rd respectively on the National Voters’ Day January 24, 2018.
