Dimapur, March 20 (EMN): Resource Organisation on Jhum and Biodiversity (ROJB) conducted a workshop on bamboo resources of Nagaland on March 19 at the conference hall of Forest Office Complex, New Minister’s Hill, Kohima.
An update from Nagaland Forest Management Project (NFMP) team stated that a brief introduction was given by Lhinghoikim Touthang, state silviculturists and CEO of ROJB, while the welcome address was delivered by Supongnukshi, NFMP project director (HRD).
Supongnukshi delivered an introduction on the importance of bamboo as a resource and the need of workshops and training in order to develop the bamboo resources of Nagaland. He also laid emphasis on how Nagaland could play a crucial role in meeting the requirements for bamboo products in the country.
Elaborating on the potentiality of Nagaland for development of bamboo industry, Supongnukshi stressed on the need for field information and survey of different bamboo products, its availability and necessity for market linkage in order to implement policies according to the survey.
A powerpoint presentation on how to collect field data using GPS, which would act as the baseline data for initial survey and how to obtain the photographs so as to help the experts identify the various bamboo species was presented by the NFMP GIS team.
A brainstorming session along with all the field officers present was held after the workshop. It further decided to undertake a survey/study at pilot village (Mongsenyimti village) in Mokokchung district in order to help standardise the format/ template for data collection for the implementation process.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks pronounced by Rongsenlemla Imchen, NFMP deputy project director.
