Kohima, Sep. 25 (EMN): The advisor of Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Services and Women Resource Development, R Khing, has underscored the role of women, which he said has shifted from housewives to breadwinners and boosting the local economy, while the female intellectuals are advancing in every sphere.

He was speaking at the Myki Umbrella distribution programme for women street vendors by the department of Women Resource Development at High School Junction, Kohima, on Friday.

The advisor stated that the distribution of umbrellas was in recognition of the women’s effort even during the lockdown period, striving to run the family despite many challenges. While assuring support in every possible ways to uplift the status of the women street vendors, he stressed on the need for improvement of the state economy and to attain self-sufficiency.

Also speaking at the function, the commissioner and secretary of Horticulture and Women Resource Development, Anenla T Sato, informed that the department is planning to take up similar initiative to encourage and uplift the women street vendors from the different districts of the state.

She also informed that more initiatives would be taken up to impart training on post-harvest management in order to boost the state economy.

Besides Myki umbrellas, facemasks were distributed to the women street vendors on the occasion.
