Dimapur, June 27 (EMN): Commemorating the anti-malaria month, National Vector Borne Disease Control Programme (NVBDCP), Wokha, has organised an awareness programme on June 27 at Likhya community hall, Wokha town.

The programme was chaired by Dr. Zathung Lotha, District Vector Borne Officer (NVBDCP), who also informed that anti-malaria month is being observed across the country in June.

Delivering a keynote address, Wezolo Medo, consultant NVBDP Wokha, stated that with the onset of monsoon, breeding is more prevalent and the disease peaks onward throughout the year. He has sought participation of the community to tackle the problem. Medo also spoke on the reduction, treatment, awareness and use of Information Education Communication (IEC) and behavioural changes in the anti-malaria campaign. He further highlighted about the malarial causes, symptoms, route of service delivery to percolate down at all levels.

Preventive measures like daily usage of LLINS mosquito nets, early diagnosis and complete treatment and vector source reduction were discussed. The main aim of the awareness programme was to minimise the barriers and maximise the benefits.

The speaker informed that treatment is available for free and urged the stakeholders to spread the information in their respective colonies.

Zuchamo, MTS, spoke on the usage of LLINs and drug regimes, while the vote of thanks was delivered by Yanpothung Kikon, DEO NVBDCP. It was followed by a demonstration of rapid diagnostic test kits of malaria for the participants. Anti-pyretics and mosquito repellents were distributed. Activities such as mass screening, LLINS fortnight, IEC and BCC activities are being carried across nine villages under Wokha district in June.

The participants included colony chairmen, members from Team Metamorphosis and stakeholders from Wokha town.
