Wokha declares 2018 ‘Year of cleanliness’

Dimapur, May 9 (EMN): As proposed by MLA from 38 Wokha AC, Wokha district has declared 2018 as the ‘Year of cleanliness’ on the theme ‘Clean Wokha-Beautiful Wokha.’

The decision to this effect was declared during the monthly meeting of the Wokha District Planning and Development Board (DPDB) held in the conference hall of the DC’s office on May 9 under the chairmanship of the deputy commissioner, Wokha, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon.

Briefing the board with regards to declaration of year of cleanliness, the administrator of Wokha Town Council & ADC, Nokchasashi, has highlighted on activities to be undertaken and things to be implemented. He informed that garbage collection has been increased from three days to six days in a week by WTC besides deploying sweepers in the town on daily basis. He also stated that five pick-up vehicles were deployed for waste disposal under Swachh Bharat Mission and mass social work to be conducted bi- monthly. In addition, he also stated that all shops were directed to keep waste bins and to keep their surroundings clean and all wards/colonies were directed to maintain proper drainage. For improvement of facilities, he stated that proper implements, tools and materials would be provided to the sanitation workers.

With the declaration of ‘Year of cleanliness,’ there could be competition among the colonies of Wokha town, wherein acknowledgement/ awards would be given to the best three colonies. The awards would be given away on the last meeting of DPDB of the year. The administrator also informed the board that utility of cesspool would be made operational by June.

The DC apprised the board about the visit to Ralan area on April 14, where he was accompanied by SP Wokha and district administration during which a consultative meeting with Assam officials and officials of SSP was held to take stock of the ongoing semi-permanent structure construction.

He also informed the board that detail report of the visit has been submitted to higher authority. He reminded all Heads of Office in the district to submit the list of employees and vehicles to the office of the deputy commissioner at the earliest.

Power point presentation on National Adoption Fund for Climate Change (NAFCC) and implementation and distribution of tools and machineries under Wokha district was presented by agriculture department.

Department of PWD (Housing), National Highways and ITI presented their departmental activities and programmes during the meeting.
