Wokha administration deliberates to contain forest fire
Dimapur, May 1 (EMN): Department of forest has organised one-day workshop on pre-fire season awareness for co-ordination among line departments, villages, colony councils, and NGOs at forest colony community hall, Wokha, with the deputy commissioner, Dr. Manazir Jeelani Samoon, as the guest of honour on May 1.
The DC, while highlighting on the structure of disaster management authority, said incidents of fire could be brought under control if the village disaster management authority and village disaster core committee response report on time.
Expressing concern on the lack of fire safety norms while constructing buildings, he urged upon the public to follow basic norms in order to prevent the fire from spreading to nearby buildings.
Commenting on the importance of conserving Mt. Tiyi Forest, he has urged upon the community participation for the success of any project. He has also appealed the villagers and colonies to come forward and regulate laws and legislations for preserving our natural resources.
A DIPR report stated that the superintendent of police, Wokha, Bharat Markad, has also urged upon all concerned citizens to preserve the forest. Giving special emphasis on Mt. Tiyi, he also assured that the department of forest would extend all possible assistance as and when required by the department.
Short speeches were also delivered by the president and secretary of Lotha hoho, president of Lotha Students’ Union and representatives from village councils.
