Vineet Kumar issues advisory over conjunctivitis outbreak
DIMAPUR — DC Peren Vineet Kumar has issued an advisory to the general public regarding the outbreak of conjunctivitis (eye flu) in the Peren district, with the objective of ensuring public health and safety while containing the spread of the infection.
As a preventive measure, Kumar advised frequent hand washing and the use of sanitisers. People have also been advised not to touch or rub their eyes and to avoid sharing towels and handkerchiefs. The advisory suggested cleaning eyeglasses frequently with alcohol disinfectant and refraining from using swimming pools during this outbreak.
Close contact with infected people should also be avoided, it said, adding that educational institutions, both public and private, have been directed to monitor and manage the spread of the infection among students.
Symptomatic students are to be granted leave to prevent further transmission, and institutions with a high number of cases are to report to the relevant administrative officer and suspend classes if necessary.
