Villages discuss ways to enforce ban on single-use plastic

Dimapur, Sep. 24 (EMN): Frontal youth organisations of Kohima village, Chedema village and Chede Model village in Kohima district met in the office chamber of the subdivision officer (civil) on September 23 in Kohima to discuss ways that will ensure effective implementation of the ban on single-use plastic in the district.

The groups met to make a programme for effective enforcement of the total ban on single-use plastic in Kohima from October 1, updates stated.

The government publicity agency the department of Information and Public Relations (IPR) issued updates on Sep. 24 informing about the meeting.

The authorities have decided to organise various activities in collaboration with the youth organisations in Kohima Sadar in the run-up to the ban.

The activities include a formal programme to educate the community about the ban on single-use plastic in Kohima, and launch of a village level task force for implementation of the ban for ‘Sadar area villages’ on September 26 at the DC’s conference hall in Kohima; installation of RO water purifiers in the council halls of Kohima village, Chedema village and Chede Model village on September 26, the IPR stated.

“Volunteers from all three villages will conduct awareness march within their respective village jurisdiction in order to sensitise and create awareness at grassroots level,” the IPR reported.

“The meeting also decided that biodegradable banners would be used during various programmes as mentioned. SDO (C) Sadar, Longasen appealed to all the villages and stakeholders under Kohima Sadar to actively participate and support the ban on single use plastic to make the implementation of the ban a success.”
