Kohima, Feb. 8 (EMN): Venuzo Dawhuo from Thenyizu village emerged as the champion of the 26th wrestling meet of Chakhesang Wrestling Association (CWA) held at Chetheba town on Jan. 8.
The 21-year-old Venuzo Dawhuo overpowered the reigning champion Vechita Khesoh of Yoruba village in the third bout of the final match to take title.
The new champion Venuzo Dawhuo walked home with a cash prize of INR 1.50 lakh while the runner-up Vechita Khesoh received INR 1 lakh.
Vekutho Soho (Phek village) downed Pfusato Tetseo (K Bawu village) to bagg the third position in the wrestling meet. The 3rd and 4th place winner received INR 80,000 and INR 50,000 respectively.
Five area/range viz, Chokri, Seceku, Phek, Chozuba and Khezha/Khuzha tephe wrestling association are competing in the championship.
The two-day wrestling meet is being hosted by Chokri Area Wrestling Association, and managed by Thenyizu Baptist Church in aid of its ensuing 75th anniversary celebration.
The freestyle category for both men and women will be held on Friday.
